MA Project

“Suspecting Women in The Leavenworth Case”

My project contemplates the empowerment of deviant female characters in The Leavenworth Case, a 19th century detective fiction novel written by Anna Katherine Green analyzed through a historical, feminist, and aesthetic lens. It focuses on the position of the suspected murderesses during a critical juncture of history, the suffrage movement, and the ability of detective fiction to present new and controversial images of women.
